about

(Don't you want to come along?)

This song seems a bit racy for 1910. I wonder why Rufina M. Joice bought it (the name is all over the sheet music I have.) Interestingly, the copyright (now expired) was "entered according to Act of Parliament of Canada in the year 1910 by Jos. M. Daly, at the Department of Agriculture." The Department of Agriculture?

lyrics

I’m Going Crazy
(Don’t you want to come along?)
words and music by Thos. S. Allen

There are some people in this world who fear they will go mad,
I know that I am foolish and to tell the truth I’m glad.
One day a fellow madman swore that he would take my life,
He raised a club and said now tell me why you kissed my wife.

I’m going crazy,
Don’t you want to come along?
We’ll live in a madhouse over the hills and,
Play in the fields with the daf-y-dills.

I’m going crazy,
There’s something wrong.

Your wife I kissed I will admit,
But listen please don't have a fit,
There was a reason this is it,

I’m going crazy,
Don’t you want to come along?

I went to see a show one night they called Salome dance,
If she had clothes she left them home, twas taking quite a chance,
She wiggled here, she wiggled there, then wiggled more and more,
And as I started up the aisle I shouted near the door.

I’m going crazy,
Don’t you want to come along?
We’ll live in a madhouse over the hills and
Play in the fields with the daf-y-dills.

I’m going crazy,
There’s something wrong.

If in our good fore-fathers day,
We did a dance that went that way
What do you think the folks would say?

I’m going crazy,
Don’t you want to come along?

One day a lady fell upon the street and hurt her knee,
They brought her in the building where my office chanced to be,
The doctor was across the hall but in my room the came,
And said please look and tell me if you think I will be lame.

I’m going crazy,
Don’t you want to come along?
We’ll live in a madhouse over the hills and
Play in the fields with the daf-y-dills.

I’m going crazy,
There’s something wrong.

She raised her skirts and said “Oh my! What is it please?”
“A beaut” said I but I’m no doctor, that is why.

I’m going crazy,
Don’t you want to come along?
